I just wanted to take a quick minute to wish all of you, my fellow readers, a Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Sure, you’re not all Irish, and that’s ok (nobody is perfect), but on St. Patty’s Day EVERYONE is a little bit Irish. Including my Siberian Husky, Lani, who has been quite the party animal all weekend long while I was away. As you can see, she’s all partied out, it was time to take her home and put her to bed.

I absolutely love it when they do this!  This is a pair of Blue-Winged Teals that I recently saw at Green Cay Wetlands in Boynton Beach.  They can often be seen sticking their heads under the water to forage for food, and when they really reach for it, their little ducky hineys come popping up into the air.

Well, no, not mine, but I would stick her in my pocket and take her home in a heartbeat!  She’s out at the barn that I ride at and this little face can always make me smile.  Never fails, every time.  How could you not love this little filly?  At just two months old she will be a baby for a while, and while I’m excited to watch her grow into a beautiful pony, I absolutely love foals and their awkward goofiness.  I just had to share her adorableness with everyone.  I hope she brings a smile to your face too!

That’s The Spot! Or Stripe… Just Keep Scratching!

There’s nothing like a good friend to scratch that spot you just can’t reach! Or, in a zebra’s case, that stripe you just can’t reach. On a recent outing to Lion Country Safari in West Palm Beach, my friend, myself, and out kids had a great time beating the Florida heat by enjoying all the wild animals from the comfort of our car in the drive through safari. 4 miles of wild animals! The zebra’s were some of our favorites with their playful antics and sweetness amongst each other. Seriously, how adorable are these two?

All Alone on Deerfield Beach

I’ve had people ask me over and over, “What on earth are you taking a picture of?!” If you’ve visited my “Getting the Shot” tab of my page, you’ll see a picture of me taking a picture while dangling my son under my arm like Baby Blanket. That’s why I decided it was time to introduce this guy…

One day, my friends and I took our kids to the beach in hopes of letting them play. True to our horrible luck, it turned out to be not-so-nice stormy weather. The beach was empty, with one exception – this lone little hermit crab. Obviously thrilled to have the beach alone, he was happily scooting across the sand and climbing rocks when we found him. You could see the look in his eyes “Tell me you’re not going to stick me in your pocket and take me home!”  Of course not, little guy, I have enough people and animals needing me to clean, feed, and pay attention to them at home. So we watched him for a while, he was just minding his little crabby business. This was the first time I have seen a hermit crab on Deerfield Beach. (I have seen them lots down in the Keys, but not up here.) I hope that he really was a wild animal, not a lost little crab that was dumped on the beach because someone didn’t want to take care of him any more. Regardless of how he got there, he was happy, and I can only hope anyone else who might have come across him noticed this and left him alone too.

California (Sea Lion) Love

Seriously, how adorable are there two?

A few years ago, my husband and I met friends of mine who were visiting from Atlanta at Sea World in Orlando. Instead of watching any of the shows, we enjoyed the roller coasters and animal exhibits while everyone else in the park was crammed into the theaters. During one of the shows, we headed over to the Pacific Point Preserve, an area in the park where Sea Lions and Harbor Seals live in an area designed to look like what their home on the coast may look like. The habitat was done quite well. It had an open water area with a wave machine, flat rocks above and barely covered in water, rocky ledges where the animals could climb and sun themselves, and even a little cove area that had water deep enough to swim but not as deep as the open area. Our eyes were immediately drawn to the cove area where there were several baby sea lions diving off the ledges and playing in the water. Their parents were off “hunting” (being fed) and had left them in this safe area, much like they would do in the wild. One by one, the mothers returned to pick up their little ones. What we saw still makes me smile to this day! A mother would enter the cove, identify her little one, and press her nose to the babies nose in a fashion that looked like a kiss. They would then leave together.

This mother and baby pair stopped right below us. They touched noses, baby played all around it’s mom and climbed on her, if it got too far away she would yell at him to come back. (If my mother yelled like a Sea Lion I probably would have been a much better behaved child!) Then, for just a few minutes, they settles down. The baby scooted up to its mother, put his flipper up on her like he was giving her a hug, and they just sat together. The result of that sweet moment (before the baby was off and driving its mother crazy again) is pictured above.
